What does your role as an apprentice involve?

As a Merchandising Apprentice I support the merchandiser in her role of the planning, distributing and trading of clothing. I analyse trends within the market and our historical data to ensure that styles, colour, sleeve length, etc are correct for the season when planning. I also ensure Purchase orders are correctly raised with the correct amount of units per channel and I also look at the current trading of clothing to ensure sales are reaching their plan.

What made you choose the apprenticeship route?

I was unsure about what sector or career I wanted to do in the future, therefore didn't want to go into debt at university when I wouldnt know what course to pick. However I did know I wanted to further my education. This got me looking into higher apprenticeships.

How did Callywith support and influence your decision to do an apprenticeship?

My Business Lecturer Andrea was super supportive in looking at what kind of business I wanted to specifically go into. She even wrote me a recommendation letter after I had gotten into Seasalt. Having had looked at business in the fashion industry as part of my course.

What is the best thing about an apprenticeship?

Personally, I enjoy analysing clothing trends within the business, I like looking at what works best and why and how we can implement that into future ranges.

What are you hoping to do in the future?

Still unsure of what I want to do in the future. Hopefully, grow my role within the fashion business industry.

Do you have any tips or advice for students considering an apprenticeship?

I would definitely say just apply. I applied to quite a few. But I think when the right one comes along you will know, there are loads of opportunities in different industries, that you may not even be aware that the role exists.
