Callywith ranked in Sunday Times Top 20 best colleges
Students and staff are celebrating after The Sunday Times Parent Power league tables ranked the College in the top 20 in their list of the “Best state sixth form colleges in England 2022”.
Callywith College, opened in September 2017 in association with Truro and Penwith College and now offers a wide range of A Levels and vocational courses to over 1200 students from North and East Cornwall and South Devon. It’s unrivalled teaching and excellent student experience, designated as Outstanding by Ofsted in 2020, is delivered in state-of-the-art facilities and has quickly become the first choice for many local young people.
In July 2021, the College celebrated an exceptional year of results, with the vast majority of UCAS applicants successfully gaining entry to their first-choice institutions. A Level students collectively secured a 99.9% pass rate overall, with 92.5% of entries being awarded A*-C grades. Students studying Level 3 Extended Diploma and Diploma courses also achieved excellent results. 100% of the College’s cohort of over 250 students passed, with 121 (46%) achieving the top distinction grades or higher.
One student, Archie McNamara from Wadebridge, achieved straight A*s in Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry and Physics A Levels. Archie is very complementary of the College and its staff who supported him to achieve, a place studying Natural Science at Cambridge University. He said: “My time at Callywith was such a positive experience. All the teachers are really approachable and supportive and I had a really enjoyable two years.”

Since opening the college, we have been privileged to work with hundreds of exceptional students and as a specialist 16-19 provider, it’s great to celebrate the exceptional things our staff and students achieve together.”
He added, “This national ranking and recognition for a non-selective state provider such as Callywith College, is a fantastic validation of our approach and it speaks volumes for the successful joint working of students and staff on their A-level courses. A levels are excellent qualifications for many students who want to progress to university, apprenticeships or employment and form one of a number of outstanding pathways available to students at Callywith to realise their potential and achieve their aspirational goals.”
The national ranking comes after two successful years that saw the College rated Outstanding in all categories by Ofsted in January 2020, shortlisted for 2 national Beacon awards by the Association of Colleges and ranked as the top sixth-form college in England for overall student achievement by the Department of Education. Cementing Callywith College as one of the best providers of 16-19 education locally and nationally.
