Callywith welcomes year 10 school pupils for Taster Days

Year 10 pupils from schools from across North and East Cornwall visited Callywith last month for a Taster Day to get a feel for life as a college student.

The College welcomed Year 10 pupils from Wadebridge, Poltair, Penrice Academy, Brannel, Sir James Smith's, Fowey River Academy and Looe Community Academy across three days.

School students took part in a variety of taster sessions including Science, Media and Photography, Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Law, Economics, Geography, Politics, Sport and much more, giving students the opportunity to experience what lessons would be like at college, first-hand.

Students also attendted a welcome talk from the Principal and participated in a fantastic ‘Calluedo’ (Callywith Cluedo) activity in Science where students carried out a series of practicals to solve a murder that had occured in college - identifying what weapon was used, where the murder took place and by whom. The murder suspects were Professor Grey, Colonel Temple, Reverend Jefferies and Ms Loom, who resembled a close likeness to the College's senior management team.

Other sessions during the Taster Days included printmaking in Art & Design, microbit programming and 3D printing in IT and Computing, sport activities in our sports hall, theatre practice in the drama studio and microscope work, a heart dissection and some (fake) urine sample testing in Health & Social Care.

We hope pupils enjoyed their taster day and look forward to welcoming some of them back to our upcoming Open Event on Saturday 12th November 2022 where visitors will be able to explore the campus, meet subject specialist staff and chat to our transport, finance and Student Services and Learning Support teams.

Thank you to our fantastic Student Ambassadors for helping out in lessons and around the campus and for sharing your experiences and to year 10s and staff from all schools who visited throughout the week.
