Dellen selected for Royal Academy Young Artists’ Summer Show

A Level Fine Art student Dellen Wagstaff has been selected for the prestigious Royal Academy Young Artists’ Summer Show 2024 in London.

Dellen is the first Callywith student to be accepted. This year, 21,566 entries were received from 3,362 registered schools and colleges.

Artworks are judged by a panel of passionate artists and arts professionals, with selected artworks displayed online and on-site at the Royal Academy of Arts from 16th July – 11th August.

Dellen shared: “I am very surprised but proud to be the first student to be selected from Callywith for the Young Artists’ Summer Show. It’s an honour and I am excited to see my work on display at the Royal Academy. The opportunity to showcase my work alongside other talented young artists is amazing and I am looking forward to seeing everyone else’s work. This experience is an exciting opportunity for me, and it’s motivating me even more to pursue my passion for creativity.

“The piece I submitted, Solitude, is the final piece for my A Level Art Personal Investigation and is a drawing of my sister. It intends to highlight the feeling of being cut off or isolated from others, both physically and emotionally, which leads to a sense of loneliness. It is a reflection of the shared isolation experienced during the COVID-19 lockdown.

“Next year I am hoping to study architecture at university, I have accepted my offers from Bath and Cardiff so depending on my grades l hope to attend either university.”

Dellen’s work is now eligible for a number of prizes which will be awarded for outstanding works in the exhibition, including the President’s Prize, which will be awarded by Rebecca Salter (President of the Royal Academy).

Visitors to the exhibition will also have the opportunity to vote for their favourite artwork in a People’s Choice Award. Voting is open online at https://www.royalacademy.org.uk/exhibition/young-artists-summer-show-2024

Dellen’s artwork will be on permanent display at Callywith College when it returns from London.
