Pupils from Sir James Smith’s Community School in Camelford were amongst the first to be given a site tour of the new Callywith College in Bodmin.
The school’s Year 11 vocational pupils were given the opportunity to take a site tour of the new post-16 College opening in Bodmin in September 2017.
Pupils were shown around the site by Kier Project Manager Steve Lee. The site visit gave Sir James Smith’s pupils and staff a behind the scenes look at what goes into the construction of a large build like Callywith College.
Comments from the year 11 pupils included: “I really like that Callywith College is keeping the same style as the college buildings in Truro,” and that, “it was really interesting to learn more about the building and to meet the people involved in its construction.”
Sir James Smith’s Career Advisor Jo Ledger added: “The visit to the Callywith College site provided a fantastic opportunity for our pupils and staff to see behind the scenes of the planning and construction of such a large project for the future education of our pupils.”
The pupils’ teaching assistant, Paul Collier, added: “This is a very exciting development for North Cornwall. “
