Performing Arts students shine in National Theatre Connections Festival

Level 3 Performing Arts Diploma students delivered an outstanding performance of ‘Replica’ by Titas Hadler as part of the prestigious National Theatre Connections Festival.

The National Theatre Connections Festival is a celebration of youth theatre and young talent within the performing arts. ‘Replica,’ a new piece of writing crafted exclusively for the festival, captivated the audience with its engaging storyline and powerful performances. The students' dedication and hard work were evident as they brought the play to life on stage, earning enthusiastic applause and accolades.

In addition to their performance at Callywith College, the students are set to showcase ‘Replica’ at the Theatre Royal in Plymouth on 18th April 2024. This opportunity not only highlights their exceptional talent but also provides them with invaluable experience performing on a professional stage.

The National Theatre Connections Festival is renowned for its support and celebration of young performers, offering them a platform to explore their creativity and passion for theatre. Callywith College is proud to be part of this esteemed event and looks forward to the continued success of its students.

A National Theatre Director attended the performance and gave students feedback in preparation for their regional performance in Plymouth. 10 groups from all over the UK will then be invited to perform at the National Theatre in London as part of a week-long theatre festival in July.

Performing Arts Lecturer Steve Wilde, who directed the fantastic performance, shared: “The students have been incredible throughout the whole process. They have worked with professionalism, passion and independence. The performance is a showcase of all of the skills and knowledge second year students have gained from their time on the course and I couldn’t be prouder of their commitment to this production. I cannot wait to see them take to the stage in Plymouth in April, we are all so excited for this opportunity and I am certain that they will be amazing!”

On the night, members of the audience shared their feedback on the performance with one saying: “It gave me goosebumps! It was really, really thought provoking, plus it was super refreshing to see so many different kinds of characters on stage in the same space. I loved the set design. I loved the fact it was so simplistic, it made set changes super slick. All the transitions were extremely well executed and because of this, the show felt very professional.”

Another audience member said: “It was fantastic, you’ve all worked amazingly hard, you should be so proud of yourselves!”

Well done to all performers, crew members and staff involved and thank you to everyone who came to watch the show.
