Planning Application submitted to Cornwall Council

A Planning Application that will see a new, state-of-the-art, post-16 campus built on land at Callywith, Bodmin, has been submitted to Cornwall Council’s planning department by Truro and Penwith College.

The application comes after Cornwall Council’s Cabinet approved the sale of its land at Callywith Gate to Truro and Penwith College in July in order for the College to create new specialist post-16  facilities .
The plans include the creation of four education and training buildings, a floodlit sports pitch, and associated landscaping and car park.

David Walrond, Principal at Truro and Penwith College, said the application reflects the college’s clear commitment to respond to significant growth in demand for places, and to address the issues of long and costly travel for many current and prospective learners. A new campus for the north and east of the county, providing exceptional levels of post-16 opportunity, also responds to identified socio-economic needs across those areas.

We believe the proposed new offer will be a learning environment of the highest quality, one tailored to the specialist post-16 phase. Architecturally it will be similar in style to the College’s existing campuses in Truro and Penzance, while internally we will continue to provide the same very high quality of equipment, resources and facilities. It should be a campus which enhances learning and attainment, one in which learners and the wider community can take real pride.

Truro and Penwith College is inviting parents of Year 8 and 9 pupils in the local area to express their interest in the new campus by completing a short survey. The survey can be completed online by visiting www.truro-penwith.ac.uk/callywithcollege

We are very keen to engage further with parents and young people in the area who are as excited as we are about the possibility of a new college.

Mark Wardle, Director of Curriculum at the College.
